ANDERSON, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was pronounced dead after he was hit by a car after a Sunday morning crash on I-69.
According to a news release from the Anderson Police Department, officers responded to a crash near the 22-mile marker of I-69 in reference to a serious vehicle crash around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived on the scene, they determined that three vehicles were involved. Officials stated that a GMC pickup, driven by 23-year-old Justin Tracy, reportedly rear-ended a Toyota Sedan and both cars stopped in the roadway.
Tracy reportedly exited his vehicle and was near the road when he was reportedly hit by a Dodge sedan that “unknowingly entered the scene following the initial crash.” The release said Tracy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the department’s crash team, as well as the Madison County Coroner’s Office, responded to the scene and all parties have cooperated. The incident caused I-69 to be closed for several hours. Officials continue to investigate the incident.
