Local kids learn to grow food through nonprofit

MINEOLA, Texas (KETK) – With students on spring break, a local non-profit is hosting a Kids Day Camp at the Mineola Nature Preserve this week.

Promise of Peace creates neighborhood and school food gardens while providing educational opportunities for families. On Monday, students got outside to learn how to grow their own food and the importance of healthy eating habits.

“Your money allows us to serve high quality programming and camps and cooking classes and anything we can think of to get the knowledge from the garden to the people so they have it in their own lives,” Promise of Peace Founder Elizabeth Dry said. “So it’s absolutely life changing in so many ways.”

They will host the camp again Tuesday from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. at the Mineola Nature Preserve.
