PITTSBURG, Kan. — The food pantry at Wesley House in Pittsburg is making some changes. It’s converting to a client-choice pantry.
The nonprofit currently provides clients with a menu of modified food options, which may not be suitable for their nutritional needs or restrictive diets.
With a full-choice pantry setup, they can now select food products that fit their wants and dietary needs.
The move is thanks to Live Well Crawford County, which collaborated with Wesley House to earn a $25,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
“The changes to the pantry allow for a more empowering experience for the guests that come through. ‘Cause they’re able to have control over what they’re feeding their families. It’s going to reduce waste on an individual level from our guests,” said Audrey Ricks, CHC/SEK Building Health Program Manager.
The grant funds will also be used to upgrade kitchen equipment inside the facility.
