Posting on social media, she said: “For the wedding gift how much do I gift the couple as they have asked for cash.

“They already own their own home so don’t have a registry.

“The other bridesmaids are gifting upwards of £1,000 but I just can’t afford to gift that much and I am being made to feel tight from the others.

“All the other bridesmaids have given the money already as they won’t see her now until the day of the hen.

“There’s been a few others who have gifted an awful lot more than £1,000.”

It then emerged that the bridesmaid has already forked out £900 of her own money on costs towards the wedding and hen do, plus paying for her own flights and accomodation.

But none of the other members of the bridal party have contributed a penny.

She said: “The hen is abroad and a few days before the wedding so I have had to organise it.

“[There is] approximately 30 people coming and I have purchased the gift bags for everyone, the games and the bride’s own separate gift bag.

“Excluding the cost of the holiday I have spent around £900 roughly.”

With the woman really worrying about finding the cash, social media users have been quick to tell her not to bother.

“I was married two years ago and the most I got was £600 from my parents”, one said.

“I would be horrified if someone had given me that amount of money. We asked people to only give if they could afford it. We wanted their time not their dime.”

A third asked: “Are these folk celebrities? £1000 gifts omg lol I’m so out of touch.”

A fourth echoed: “£1k cash for getting married? Who is the bride, Victoria Beckham?”

“£1000 wedding gift? I’ve never heard of anything so wild”, a fifth chimed in.

“Is this a celebrity wedding? £100 is the max and even that is a lot.”

Meanwhile, someone else admitted: “I’m very uncomfortable with this .

“No one should ever be made to feel tight. We should all be in control of our own finances.

“£1000 as a wedding gift / hen do whatever is an astonishing amount of money.
