The Amherst Historical Society’s 2024 Car and Bike Show will return for the third time June 2 to the city’s historic Sandstone Village, 736 Milan Ave.
Due to the amount of history in Sandstone Village, the Historical society wanted to host the event to bring the community together and show the results of the efforts made to create the “gem” in Amherst, said Elizabeth Fought, public relations manager.
Though cars will be the main focus, there will be a 50/50 raffle, food trucks, basket raffles and other activities to kick off the summer, Fought said.
“In addition to the amazing cars and bikes that participate, all of our historic buildings will be open, including our newest museum, the Sandstone POW Barracks and Military Museum which opens May 1,” she said. “All of the buildings tell a story, and we are grateful to everyone over the past 50 years who have made the beautiful Village what it is today.
“Our Shops at Sandstone Village will be open as well, where you can find fabulous items at affordable prices.”
The event is rain or shine, and registration is day of by donation only.
No criteria is needed to enter a car or bike, according to Fought.
The first 200 participants will receive a dash plaque, and the first 100 will receive a goody-bag, she said.
All registrants will have the chance to win door prizes.
“Over 200 cars and bikes last year registered, and we are grateful to everyone who came,” Fought said. “Both car and bike owners and attendees filled the Village last year, which was wonderful to see. Everyone enjoyed seeing the range of incredible cars and bikes, as well as learning more about the history of each one.”
Fought said history is everywhere in Sandstone Village to educate the community and bring people together and get to know one another.
Many businesses and organizations in Amherst have come together to make efforts to support the car show through sponsorships and basket item donations, she said.
“This is a free community event, so there is no cost to attendees, thanks to the generosity of sponsors,” Fought said. “We are grateful to this year’s event sponsors Agent Charles Chapman State Farm and Nordson Corporation Foundation, as well as First Federal Savings of Lorain and The Vassie Scott Group Inc. for their generosity in sponsorships.
“The Amherst Historical Society knows the importance of community, for the past, present and future, and we are grateful.”
