Child found unrestrained inside car with wanted felon, gun, drugs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A felon wanted by U.S. Marshals for violating probation was arrested Thursday morning after police said he had drugs and a gun in the presence of a child.

At about 12:30 a.m., detectives found 31-year-old Keith Puckett pulling into a Days Inn motel at 3312 Dickerson Pike, driving a 2010 black Nissan Rogue with the tag reading “badchik.” Puckett was known to have a federal warrant for a probation violation for being in possession of a firearm, police said.

Puckett was taken into custody without incident, and officers began searching his SUV. Inside the vehicle, police found a loaded gun, crack cocaine, fentanyl pills, his wife, and his unsecured 3-year-old child, according to his arrest report.

The child was “leaning on the center console in extremely close proximity to the narcotics and loaded firearm,” police said.

Puckett remains jailed as of Friday morning.
