The Banks, Strabane

Strabane used to make us laugh. Presented by local comedians as that funny wee town near Derry City, it has been repeatedly relegated to culchie backwater.

But have we forgotten that Strabane gave us Flann O’Brien, Ireland’s greatest literary absurdist, George Sigerson, the country’s leading 20th century physician and poet and whose name is on the Sigerson Cup (ask your college and university friends), and John Dunlap whose printing presses were famously used to publish the American Constitution and the US’s first daily newspaper? There are plenty more.
