Sarah Beth Liebe quit American Idol after Katy Perry made a joke about her being a mom when she auditioned a few days ago.
“This is a really cool chance, but this will be my last performance because my heart is at home with my kids, so I’m going to go see them. They need me kind of, “Liebe said after she sang on a recent episode of the singing show.
The mother of three then ran off the stage, which surprised the judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
The judges then asked to talk to Liebe, so she was brought back on stage.
Perry told Liebe, “Life is scary.” “I also know that it’s easier to give up than to be turned down, but I also know that if you do that, you won’t reach your fullest potential. As a mother, I know that you love your family for your kids. But don’t forget that self-love is just as important as love for a mother. Don’t drop out of the race.”
Liebe said, “Thank you,” and then walked off the stage. Backstage, she told a producer that she didn’t think she was going to win, so she thought it would be best to go home.
Perry said to Liebe, “Stay on the stage.” “You walked through a door you never thought you’d walk through, and the answer was yes. You might get another yes someday. Do not give up.”
But Liebe had already decided to quit, so Perry’s words did not convince the hopeful singer to stay in the competition.
Liebe also said that she knew she might regret leaving American Idol in the future.
The former contestant got a lot of attention when the episode of her audition that aired on ABC. Liebe said that Perry made fun of her for being a mother.
For those who don’t know, when Liebe auditioned, the judges were surprised to find out she was only 25, because they thought she could pass for 16.
When they found out she had three kids, they were even more shocked. Perry stood up and joked that she was going to fall back on the judge’s table.
Liebe then wrote on her TikTok account that the joke “wasn’t very nice” and that it was embarrassing and hurtful to have that on TV. That’s all she had to say about it. But I did want to use this chance to say that I think it’s so cool when women support and lift up other women, and I think it’s so lame when people shame moms.
