
ELKHART — The exhibit “Youth Art Month 2024” continues through April 7 at the Midwest Museum of American Art,429 S. Main St.
This year, 160 students from four area high schools were selected to exhibit 178 works of art in all media.
The exhibit is held annually in conjunction with National Youth Art Month and provides an opportunity for students,grades 9 through 12, who have realized success in the visual arts to have their work exhibited in a museum setting.
This exhibit focuses on the vitally important work carried out in the area of art education throughout the year and isunique because it seeks to explore topics in art education such as cognitive and emotional health and self and visualawareness, as well as, an appreciation of individual differences.
The following students won awards:
• Lilly Palmer, Northridge High School: Phillip Monteith Scholarship ($500)
• Emma Kellogg and Rosa Soriano Sanchez, Concord High School: Stuart and Trudy Basquin Youth Art Award
• Alani Guzman Rios and Aiden McFall, Elkhart Career Center: Tom Grove Memorial Award for Photography
• Caregan Bontrager, Cydney Culver, Natasha Smith and Abigail Chris, Northridge High School: Robert & Mary Boyer Youth Art Award
• Kyra Klesser, Concord High School, and Endesha Henderson, Elkhart Career Center: Northern Indiana Artists Youth Art Award
• Brendon Velasco, Elkhart Career Center: Goshen Photographers Guild Youth Art Award
• Adela Les, Northridge High School: Goshen Painters Guild Youth Art Award
• Paige Elliot and Natalie Middleton, Elkhart High School: Goshen Clay Artists Guild Youth Art Award
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Admission is $10-$6; free for ages 7 and younger.
