The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital celebrated its 7th birthday on the 15th of March 2024 and the fact that the team have treated 14,000 wild animals.
Johannesburg, South Africa (18 March 2024) – The team at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital (JWVH) has been open for seven years, they shared the happy news of their birthday on social media along with some incredible stats.
Since opening its doors seven years ago, the JWVH team has treated over 14,000 animals. The brilliant part of this isn’t even the number; it’s the fact that they treat indigenous wildlife free of charge!
“In these seven years, we have collaborated with multiple universities on post-grad projects, developed internship programs for vet and vet nursing students from across the globe, and attended international conferences as guest speakers. Our hospital was also the first facility in South Africa to treat and rehabilitate the endangered Temminck’s pangolin. We have, and still are, contributing significantly to the ever-growing knowledge of this shy and elusive species.”
“We have persevered in our pursuit to ensure that the voices of our patients are heard. We did this by pursuing justice for wildlife crime, not only in Gauteng, but across six provinces! We have collaborated with law enforcement and animal welfare entities, and we have had precedent setting sentences for a variety of animal related crimes.”
While 14,000 animals sounds like a lot, it is only the beginning. The team is committed to doing more, saving more wild animals and securing the future of indigenous wildlife brought into the hospital.
“We have a DREAM to be bigger and better than we are currently, and we can’t wait for what the future holds. Together we will make a difference.
