Jada Pinkett Smith Says Her Marriage to Will Smith Was a ‘Fantasy’ That Has Been ‘Shattered’

Jada talked about why she and Will hid the fact that they haven’t been together since 2016 in her upcoming, extremely honest memoir, Worthy.

“I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” the hostess of Red Table Talk told Today’s Hoda Kotb in a clip from the NBC News special that came out Wednesday.

While the childhood sweethearts worked on “between the two of us how to be in partnership,” they didn’t know how to let other people know what their relationship was really like.

But Jada never really felt “ready” to formally split up with Will.

According to Page Six, she told Kotb, “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she expressed, adding that they will “work through whatever.”

The famous couple, who have three kids together, Jaden, Willow, and Trey Smith, has long denied having problems in their marriage, always looking like a team on camera.

On a 2020 Red Table Talk episode, they were honest about Jada’s “entanglement” with singer August Alsina while she and Will were said to have been secretly split up.

The actor from Men in Black told Oprah Winfrey in 2021, “We realized that it was a fantasy illusion that we could make each other happy.”

“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying,” the mom of three told Kotb about the “fracture” in their marriage.
