After two years in Maplewood, Forget Me Not Boutique is shifting gears. The women’s clothing retailer is closing its doors at 2718 Sutton Boulevard at the end of March.
Owner Tracey Mertens said that running the store in addition to working her full-time job has been difficult. Plus, she found that the store didn’t have a lot of foot traffic and recently, people have been spending less money due to anxieties over the economy.
However, in May, Forget Me Not will reopen as a stall at the Painted Tree, a vendor-based retail space in the Deer Creek Shopping Center, at 3200 Laclede Station Road.
Here, Mertens and her sister, Pamela Wolf, will sell artisan jewelry, skincare and cosmetics and home décor, instead of clothing, under the same business name.
“We said, ‘Let’s do something different,’” Mertens said. “We took that idea and ran with it after we visited the Painted Tree in Ballwin.”

And depending on how things go at the new stall, Mertens said she is open to leasing another space to sell clothes again.
The Painted Tree is set to open at the end of May, according to Mertens. In the meantime, Forget Me Not Boutique is hosting a store-closing sale where all products are 70% off.
“I’m glad I did it,” Mertens said of the boutique. “I will really miss my customers. The neighborhood is phenomenal.”
