Ben Affleck reached another important milestone. His film Air, which he directed, will receive the Visionary Icon and Creator Tribute at the 33rd Gotham Awards Ceremony.
There were rumors that the 51-year-old star and his wife Jennifer Lopez were having problems in their marriage at the same time of his big win.
Affleck’s sports drama is based on real events and tells the inspiring story of how rookie basketball player Michael Jordan made a deal with Nike’s failing basketball shoe line that changed the game and created the famous Air Jordan brand.
The executive head of The Gotham Film and Media Institute praised the movie’s work by the director who won an Academy Award.
“Both gripping and hilarious, AIR is a deeply refreshing reminder to the film industry that audiences respond to smart, original narratives,” he said in an announcement.
He also said that the movie, which takes place in 1984, told the dramatic story of the “most monumental partnership” in the history of sports marketing.
He went on, “The film highlights the power of knowing your worth and using that knowledge to take the right risks.”
“We are privileged to honor both the story behind a legend and the AIR team who brought that story to life with the Visionary Icon & Creator Tribute,” he said.
The important event will take place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, November 27, 2023.
