A group of people at the University of Oxford gave Kevin Spacey a standing ovation after his act as part of a lecture about “cancel culture” on October 16.
The Independent says Kevin went on stage months after he was found not guilty of sexual assault against four men in a London trial that finished in July 2023.
The actor is said to have played a five-minute scene from William Shakespeare’s satire Timon of Athens.
Shakespeare’s work has been called “an exploration of what is now often called cancel culture” by some modern reviewers.
The play was written in the early 1600s, and Kevin seems to have played it to talk about how he felt about being kicked out of Hollywood because of sexual assault claims.
When London’s Prince Charles Cinema learned that Kevin had a voice part in the actor’s new movie Control, they pulled their offer to host the premiere. Kevin then went on stage a few days later.
Kevin, meanwhile, was taken to the hospital earlier this month after he was said to have had a health scare at a film festival.
