COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Runners in the Chattahoochee Valley are hitting the streets this weekend, to help those who may be running on empty. And you still have time to sign up for this event – for a good cause.
The 8th annual Outrun Hunger 5K will be this Saturday, April 6, starting at 8 a.m. You can still register up until 30 minutes before the race.
It starts at the Feeding the Valley food bank in Midland, with all proceeds helping some of the youngest in our community.
“Every bit of the money we raise goes to Feeding the Valley’s kids café, a major focus that the children have enough food so they can concentrate and learn in school,” Outrun Hunger 5K Coordinator Kathy Gierer said.
Along with the 3.1-mile run – most of it on the fall line trace -, there is also a 1-mile “fun run,” bouncy houses, face painting, plus special guests: local sports mascots and the Miracle Riders. The focus of the fun event is helping to feed those in need.
“Very few of us know what starving really is and with Feeding the Valley, we’re able to give around $6,000 to them, just from this activity,” Gierer added. She says people will be running and walking – some with baby strollers and dogs, and everyone is welcome.
