“When women wear Nomi, and send me a DM or an email afterwards with a photo or with feedback, I just get so excited.”
The stylist and Instagram star, empowers women with kids by looking fabulous while still being a mom – not that easy to maintain when you’ve smallies, but she does it well and built herself an impressive audience of 217,000.
Mum-of-three Naomi, a Cavan-native, who is often seen modelling big labels M&S and Very Ireland, has just released the third collection of her very own label Nomi.
Armed with a business degree from Trinity College, Dublin says: “My nieces and nephews all still call me Nomi and it’s what I was always called when I was little.
“But when researching the word Nomi I discovered it has Japanese origins which mean pleasant and beautiful so that clicked it for me. I’ve been a stylist for years and when I was little I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer one day.
“I was at a wedding in December and met someone wearing Nomi – I honestly thought I was going to cry, the poor woman.
“My background is in personal styling and I have always gotten a real thrill from helping women feel their best selves.
“When women wear Nomi, and send me a DM or an email afterwards with a photo or with feedback, I just get so excited.
“I’ve had everything from “My daughter’s wedding’, “My child’s christening”, ‘My 50th’ to ‘My best friend’s wedding’ and “I felt a million dollars”, not only do I feel a sense of privilege and honour that they choose Nomi for their special occasion but that feeling, that they felt good in Nomi, that is my adrenaline rush.
“I am such a strong believer in the transformative power of clothing for women, and if through Nomi, I can be part of that, then that makes me very happy.”
Priced above high street prices, the Marlow top is at 100 euro and a jumpsuit is 185, Naomi says she caters for all sizes.
“At present Nomi offers a size range of 8 -to 18. Once we have a style confirmed and I am happy with it, we move to fit sample stage. I think it’s really important to see the pieces on a cross section of women to ensure it will work.
“Designing it is not a linear journey! Creativity and ideas come in waves, some days I can be all guns blazing and full of new ideas and others days I can struggle. It’s also so far in advance, I think many people don’t realise I am working on styles almost a year in advance.”
Naomi, whose husband Cormac works in property, admit that life is busy, between working and being a mammy, but she loves it.
“I won’t lie, life is pretty mental; I have three daughters. Anabelle is eight, Luna May is five and Kaia is two. It’s bonkers, but the truth is , I think I secretly thrive in chaos. I think with all that is going on in the world, it’s a harsh reminder of how incredibly lucky we are to have three healthy girls who are safe and so loved.
“This chaotic stage in our lives, when we are so needed by them for everything, will not always be the case, and before I know it we will have teenage girls on our hands, who no doubt will be pinching my make-up and sneaking out. So as hard as it is at times, the other side of me never wants these early years to end.”
The stand-out look in Nomi’s latest collection has to be the dramatic sleeves – adding a touch of drama to her piece.
She laughs: “I have always had an obsession with sleeves on dresses, there is something just so elegant about a sleeve.
“There is a real theme of femininity though the story of the sleeves in this collection; from the statement puff sleeves in the Marlow to the dramatic bow on the Chloe dress
“I think with my SS collection, whilst the focus is on classic, timeless and elegant styles, I wanted to introduce some of my personality and add some character through the use of touches in the sleeves that gave that extra wow factor.”
But who is her label aimed at and does it look good on the everywoman?
“Nomi is for women who love their fashion, are not focused on trends but rather embrace timeless , elegant, classic pieces that transcend trends and will be in your wardrobe for years to come.
“My first two collections have had a focus on party wear and occasion wear, with chic separates that are wearable and versatile, to my hero showstoppers like the one shoulder dress and the two tone jumpsuit. Whilst the focus to date has been introducing Nomi, who we are, and what we create in the sphere of occasion wear style, there is a lot more to come from Nomi.
“I have been working on a resort collection for months now and it’s coming together really well.”
