Breakfast tacos from Ruby Slipper
For my first visit to Ruby Slipper, I was welcomed with an array of options on the menu. There was fried chicken, avocado toast, pancakes omelets and French toast. I couldn’t believe I had never been. Probably because every time I’ve tried to go, the wait is in the ballpark of an hour.
I get it now.
I decided on the breakfast tacos, which included three grilled flour tortillas filled with a scrambled eggs, pico de gallo, pepper jack, chipotle sour cream and avocado, served with a side of breakfast potatoes. I added chorizo as well. Just like a good taco should, all the ingredients meshed together, dancing on my taste buds. The avocado balanced the chipotle sour cream, and the chorizo was perfectly incorporated into the eggs.

Fruits of the Spirit Combo Plate with a fried turkey wing, two ribs with spicy butter pecan sauce, grits with seafood sauce and Fiyah yah rice from Feed Yuh Soul food truck in Lafayette, La.
The Fiyah Yah Rice has a great spice to it, and the fried ribs smothered with a spicy butter pecan sauce manages to be delicious without overwhelming the rib meat — a great flavor experience all on its own. The grits with a crawfish-heavy seafood sauce are also standout, a feat on a plate crowded with heavy-hitters. And if you’re a fan of succulent turkey, the fried turkey wing does not disappoint. Yes, you’ll need a nap after, but it’s guaranteed to be worth it.

Wedge salad at Ruth’s Chris
Blue cheese may be an acquired taste for some, but most of those who have acquired that taste appreciate an excellent wedge salad.
Wedge salad at Ruth’s Chris
To no surprise, that’s exactly what Ruth’s Chris serves — a giant wedge of iceberg lettuce covered in creamy dressing with enough blue cheese crumbles to satisfy. Plus, there’s large pieces of real bacon.
All in all, it’s delicious and could be a meal within itself.
