Demand for premium gadgets goes up in the festive season, says a report


As the festive season begins, offers and discounts on shopping platforms are aplenty. With more than 5,000 new launches across categories such as smartphones, laptops, TVs, fashion and beauty, home décor, appliances, furniture and groceries among others, customers have access to the wide selection from top brands.
As per the report shared by an online shopping platform, Amazon India, from their recent shopping festival, shopping for premium gadgetssaw a spike in demand and customers shopped for 35% more premium smartwatches in the first 48 hours of the sale as compared to last year.Ten premium active noise cancelling headphones were bought by customers every minute and demand for tablets almost doubled with laptops seeing more than 40% increase as compared to last year, says the report.
Other key highlights of the report are:
Customers shopped for one TV per second with 80% of all orders coming from tier 2 and 3 cities

  • More than one appliance was bought by customers every second; almost half buying a premium appliance.
  • The most loved appliances were side-by-side refrigerators with 4x more sales and front load washing machines with 2x more demand as compared to last year.
  • Customers shopped for one TV per second with 80% of all orders coming from tier 2 and 3 cities/towns; 4K TVs were the most preferred
  • Demand for large screen TVs witnessed a record growth of 260% YoY

Non-metros shop for premium brands

  • In the first 48 hours of sales, the fashion category on the website witnessed over 5X growth with customers shopping from top brands with premium brands seeing 10X more demand
  • There was a spike of more than 6X for makeup and premium beauty brands
  • Over 80% of new customers came from non-metro cities
  • There was 2X growth in demand for fashion jewellery, 3.5X in beauty essentials, 10X growth in sarees under 199, 6X growth in polo t-shirts under 299 and 6X growth in sports shoes

Rise in demand for toys and games
Bestsellers in toys section witnessed a 15X surge in demand
There was highest traction for outdoor toys category, with more than 70% increase in customer traffic on the selection of ride-ons
