Massanutten Technical Center hosting Car & Truck Show

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Students at Massanutten Technical Center will be showing off their work and are inviting the community to show off their own vehicles in their Car & Truck Show on Saturday, April 27.

The show will feature a car built entirely by students, alongside submissions from the public. Car categories include Decades (1920-1991 and up), Best Rat Rod, and Best Import. There are two categories for trucks including Best Diesel and Best Gasoline Truck. Judges will also select awards including MTC Auto Tech Student Choice, Best in Show, and Rarest Rod.

Automotive Technology Instructor Terry Taylor said the proceeds of last year’s show helped to improve the tools students use at MTC in their work. In preparation for this year’s event, students have been assembling a classic car since Thanksgiving.

“We’ve updated equipment just like your dealerships are using and your other car repairs so when these students would leave here and want to go into work as a tech, they’re not seeing equipment that would be new to them, they’re seeing the same thing they were able to learn on throughout the year and that’s very important,” Taylor said.

Early registration ends on Friday, April 12, which is $20 for those interested in entering. Registration will be taken on the day of the event for $25.

MTC Assistant Director Chris Dalton said along with the cars and trucks, there will be activities for kids like face painting, a DJ, food trucks, and 50/50 donations and raffles.

“We had over 100 cars last year, and we’re looking for that and more it’s gonna be a beautiful weekend hopefully and we’re just looking forward to having fun with the community. The students get into it but it’s about opening MTC up to the community,” Dalton said.

Spectators get in for free and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Below is a schedule for the event:

  • 9:15-9:45 a.m. | Arrival/Car Check-in
  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Car show
