Meijer makes donation to Food Bank of Northwest Indiana

Meijer made a donation of $70,000 to the Northwest Indiana Food Bank as part of $2 million in contributions to 30 food banks across the Midwest.

“We recognize the vital role food banks play in addressing hunger and are proud to stand alongside our partners to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity,” said Rick Keyes, president and CEO of Meijer. “We know there is an elevated need in many of our communities, and we want to do our part to help feed our hungry neighbors.”

The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer, which has superstores in Highland, Merrillville, Portage, Valparaiso and Michigan City, estimates about 730,480 people, including 204,290 children, are facing hunger in Indiana alone.

“We are incredibly grateful for Meijer’s display of support through their recent gift,” said Fred Glass, president and CEO of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. “Food insecurity continues to rise across the country, and unfortunately, Indiana is no exception. Partners like Meijer make a huge impact on our ability to provide a reliable source of nutritious meals for Hoosiers experiencing food insecurity. Thanks to Meijer and their team for their commitment to the fight against hunger.”
