Trust is the cornerstone in almost everything, including mobility. Whether it’s a two-wheeler, or an aeroplane, the strong trust on the technology they operate with, and also on their operators, are what make users opt for them without any hesitation. However, there are concerns around the autonomous driving or driverless car technology megatrend, mainly because of multiple incidents involving vehicles equipped with the technology.

Can robotaxis deliver for GM?

Autonomous driving technology has come a long way. According to a McKinsey Report released last year, the technology trend could create USD300 billion to USD400 billion in revenue by 2035. However it seems that as a concept it has to earn more trust from end users in order to advance on the path to become a mainstream technology. Global car major General Motors is making efforts on those lines with the resumption of its Cruise robot taxi service in the US. Details in the report below.

Can AI be smarter than the human brain?

Many may say ‘no’, considering that it’s humans who create artificial intelligence (AI). You can trust Elon Musk to take a contrary viewpoint. He feels AI can become smarter than the smartest human brain, in a year or two. Read about his prediction and the hurdles on the development path of Grok, the AI chatbot from his xAI startup.

Tesla Autopilot cannot fully replace the driver, yet

The term ‘Assistance’ in Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS, one of the hottest trends globally, should be highlighted strongly. OEMs should educate customers well enough that drivers should be fully alert even when ADAS features are engaged in a vehicle. A 2018 fatal accident involving a Tesla, driving with its Autopilot feature allegedly engaged, has finally been settled. The jury is still out whether the driver misused the Autopilot feature, as contended by Tesla, but whatever the reality, the driver will not come back to life. This story also underlines the crucial responsibilities that both OEMs and consumers have, when it comes to using autonomous or semi-autonomous driving technology.

Electric trucking

The truck segment is the only one which hasn’t received any incentive/subsidy from the Government to go electric. However efforts in electrifying trucking grows, from established OEMs, a Tier 1 or two, and startups. Here’s one startup which is gearing up to compete with the biggies on the road by early 2026. Like most EVs, the trucks will lean on technology for competitiveness. Find out more about the truck, which has already claimed to have received a pre-order for 1,000 units, in this story by Kriti Saraiya.
