Eugene Visual Arts Week 2023 offers shows, exhibits and a parade

Visual Arts Week is underway with exhibitions and activities at various downtown Eugene locations through Friday.

The Lane Arts Council, Maude Kerns Art Center, ArtCity and City of Eugene Cultural Services are partnering to host Visual Arts Week 2023 to provide a platform for “experimentation, creativity and dialogue.”

“Works by 42 artists are included in this year’s show, and patrons can vote for their favorite entry for the People’s Choice Award either in person or online until noon Oct. 13,” according to a release from Eugene Cultural Services.

A new feature in Visual Arts Week is “Cultural Currents,” temporary public art installations that advance representation and narratives for groups that have been historically excluded, misrepresented and marginalized.

An advisory committee selected 10 artists who received stipends to create paintings, sculptures, printed banners and audio/digital projections for public display downtown.

BEAM, a “celebration of illuminated art” will be hosted by ArtCity at 7 p.m. Friday, and a nighttime “BEAM BRiGHT” parade at 7 p.m. Saturday will lead human- and electric-powered floats through downtown streets.
