Florida street racer driving 80 mph goes airborne, lands in canal in…


A Florida man street racing at 80 mph in a residential neighborhood lost control and went airborne before his Dodge Challenger landed in a canal.

The unidentified man had to be rescued from his sinking car after the wild crash in Cape Coral that was caught on camera and witnessed by stunned neighbors.

The driver was racing a Mercedes at the high rate of speed and tried to stop before running over a palm tree, which launched him airborne into the Cape Coral canal, witnesses told Click Orlando.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the car zooming across the lawn, bouncing several times before rolling over a tree and diving nose-first into the water, narrowly missing a man who was on his lawn.

The car makes a big splash before reappearing at the surface. The driver can be see trying to escape the vehicle through his window.

Eventually a man on the bank dives in and helps pull the man out of the car, according to Click Orlando.

Seconds later, the nose of the car completely dips under water.

““I was just nervous,” Lorraine Holder, whose security cameras captured the moment, told WESH. “I was scared because after seeing the car go completely airborne, I was like, ‘OK, now this is something serious.’”



No one was seriously injured, according to Click Orlando.

Cape Coral Police said the driver had been going 80 mph down Northwest 17 Terrace.
