WESTMONT, IL — Two men face felony charges after Westmont police say they found a gun on one of the men after pulling them both over in a car that had been reported stolen out of Rockford.
Canutie Collins, 20, of Westmont, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon — machine gun —and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Mathias Henyard, 18, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Police in Westmont say that just before 2:30 p.m., they spotted a Nissan Rogue that had been reported stolen out of Rockford in a parking spot at Oakley Drive South. According to police, the car left the parking lot and made its way east on Oakley Drive South.

Officers reported that they followed the car to a parking lot at Oakley Drive North, where two men parked the car and removed its license plate.
Police approached Collins and took him into custody following a “brief struggle,” a news release said. Henyard, who was in the car, is accused of driving toward the police officers before getting out and trying to flee on foot.

According to police, they found a fully automatic 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine in a backpack that Collins had been carrying.
“Public safety remains the top priority of my office and the allegation that Mr. Collins unlawfully possessed an extremely dangerous, fully-loaded gun capable of firing as a machine gun, is outrageous,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
Berlin added, “To further aggravate the matter, it is further alleged that both these men were in possession of a vehicle stolen out of Rockford earlier the same day. Allegations such as those against these defendants will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be fully prosecuted.”
Henyard and Collins are expected to appear in court on May 6.
