2-year-old son survives car wreck that killed mother in Rocky Mount, police investigating


ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A two-vehicle collision resulted in a loss of life for a young mother in Rocky Mount Sunday night.

According to Rocky Mount police, a 29-year-old female driver and the driver of a second vehicle collided just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Springfield Rd. and US-64 Alt West.

The woman was in her vehicle with her two-year-old son, police said.

While she was pronounced dead on the scene, police said her two-year-old son was transported to Vidant Hospital in Greenville. The driver of the second vehicle, who police did not provide any identifying information about, was also transported to the same hospital in Greenville.

As of Monday afternoon, Rocky Mount police do not have a description of what led up to the fatal wreck, however, the RMPD Traffic Enforcement Crash and Reconstruction Unit is currently working to establish those details.
