Winston-Salem State University campus police searching for light-colored vehicle in connection to car break-ins, officials say
COURT ON THE 25TH. WHEN I CAME OUT HERE, I WAS JUST LIKE I WAS DEVASTATED, I AIN’T GONNA LIE. I WAS LIKE, WINSTON-SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR SUSPECTS TONIGHT, AFTER NEARLY 20 STUDENTS HAD THEIR CARS BROKEN INTO OVERNIGHT. THE UNIVERSITY SAYS THIS HAPPENED IN LOT D OUTSIDE OF WILSON HALL. MARIA DEBONE WAS ON CAMPUS TODAY AND SPOKE TO SEVERAL STUDENTS. SEVERAL WINSTON-SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WOKE UP TO FIND THEIR CARS LIKE THIS THIS MORNING. WINDOWS SHATTERED AND GLASS EVERYWHERE. WHERE MY BOY CALLED ME AT 9:00 THIS MORNING AND HE SAID, SOMEBODY BROKE INTO OUR CARS AND I JUST CAME DOWN HERE, LIKE AUTOMATICALLY. IT WAS MAD. WHEN I CAME OUT HERE, I WAS JUST LIKE, I WAS DEVASTATED. I AIN’T GONNA LIE. SOMEONE BROKE INTO 17 VEHICLES ON THE WINSTON SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS. SOME STUDENT HAD VALUABLES STOLEN LIKE WALLETS AND MONEY FROM THEIR CARS, AND AS A RESULT, SHATTERED GLASS WAS SPREAD IN THE PARKING LOT, BROKE THE WINDOW, WENT THROUGH A COUPLE THINGS AND LEFT. I GUESS IT’S JUST CRAZY THEY COULD DO THIS TO US LIKE THAT. LIKE THIS. JUST DON’T MAKE NO SENSE. LIKE, WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF IT? STUDENTS SAY THEY PAY TO PARK IN THIS LOT OUTSIDE OF WILSON HALL, SO THEY EXPECT THEIR CARS TO BE SAFE. WE ARE IN SALEM STATE AND AROUND WINSTON. IT’S NOT THE SAFEST AREA, BUT YOU EXPECT TO HAVE THAT SAFE SPACE ON CAMPUS. THIS IS WHERE I’VE BEEN PARKING SINCE I MOVED IN, AND I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. SO FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, IT JUST CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. AND THE UNIVERSITY SAYS THE SUSPECTS HAVE NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED ANY ONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL THE WSU POLICE DEPARTMENT OR SUBMIT A TIP THROUGH THE RAVE GUARDIAN APP.
