The quirky, off-beat and sometimes bizarre culinary show “Good Eats” featuring Alton Brown is the most popular cooking show in Louisiana.
That’s the results of a national survey by Mr. Appliance that tapped the top food viewing for each state based on search volume data from Google for the past 12 months.
Louisiana, known for its culinary capabilities and captivating cuisine, found the 16-season show was a winner. The Food Network program featured Alton Brown, an Georgia-based two-time James Beard Award winner who skillfully blended the science behind the flavors, with some bizarre skits and shenanigans thrown in for good measure. He has gone on to host more shows on the network and even crafted a sequel, “Good Eats: The Return” after parlaying recaps in “Good Eats Reloaded.” Talk about creative use of leftovers.
Louisiana was the only state to pick the show as its flavor fave.
Overall, the survey found that the amateur reality competition show “MasterChef” was the most popular in 13 states, with “Barbecue Showdown,” another Georgia-filmed show, favored in seven states; no surprise that it was popular in southern spots like Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Texas.
Local culinary luminary Emeril Lagasse’s “Emeril Live” show was tops in Alabama.
“Top Chef,” which has had plenty of Louisiana representation, include Lagasse as a judge and Nina Compton as a runner-up, was the most popular in six states. The show is a two-time Emmy winner.
The Mr. Appliance krewe started with a list of 40 poplar shows gleaned from sources like Thrillist, Looper and The Manual. Statistics from July 2022 to July 2023 were viewed.
