(WSET) — If you tested positive for COVID-19, and still notice side effects months later, you’re not alone. A local expert is taking a closer look at how common Long COVID is here in our community.
Long COVID comes in different shapes and forms. You could still feel sick months later with symptoms like having trouble breathing, a cough, or feeling fatigued, according to Cali Anderson, a COVID epidemiologist for the Central Virginia Health District.
You may even have issues with your brain, heart, or kidneys, according to Anderson.
She said they’re trying to find out what puts you at a greater risk of Long COVID and find ways for you to get past it quicker.

“Trying to solidify the knowledge that we have about long COVID. So in the future, we’ll be better able to recognize it, to diagnose it, to treat it, and to hopefully prevent it,” Anderson said.
Anderson’s working on the study now. You don’t have to be diagnosed with Long COVID to participate, as long as you have lingering symptoms at least 2 months after you get COVID.
They’re looking for folks in Lynchburg as well as Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties.
If you qualify for the study, you can fill out the interest form here or call 804-664-4520. She says that a team member will later reach out.
