Barcelona edge Real Madrid aside in television viewing figures

The second international break has given clubs a brief respite from action and offered a pause in proceedings as the television viewing figures have been revealed for the 20 LaLiga teams on Spain’s pay TV networks: DAZN and Movistar Plus. The data covers the nine matchdays of the 2023-24 LaLiga campaign played to date.

Barça lead the way

Despite currently occupying third position in the overall LaLiga standings, Xavi’s Barça can boast the highest viewing average audience with 816,000 viewers, according to WOSTI (World Sports Television Information). To date, Los Azulgranas have been the most watched team in seven of the nine matchdays completed so far: Getafe (750,000), Cádiz (593,000), Villarreal (714,000), Osasuna (1,137,000), Mallorca (908,000), Sevilla (830,000) and Granada (1,040,000).

Madrid in second spot

Despite not holding top billing, Los Blancos can boast that they (along with Atlético Madrid) were involved in the most watched match of the nine matchdays so far with the matchday 6 Madrid derby attracting 1,507,000 viewers.

Real Madrid are second with the highest average audience so far: 761,778 viewers. In third place and some way behind their eternal rivals are Atlético Madrid, with an average of 503,625 viewers.

Athletic’s deceptive statistics

The Basque side are traditionally one of Spain’s most popular clubs and this is normally reflected in away games and generally by television audience figures. This season four of Los Leones games have been broadcasted via free-to-air networks and this impacts on the overall figures with data from Gol TV not reflected in the overall figures.
