Décor retailer Accent Prone adds second N.C. location

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.—Accent Prone, a furniture and home décor retailer, has expanded to a second location here, adding a retail shop to go along with its flagship store and warehouse, both in Kernersville, N.C.

The 3,500-square-foot store in the lakes region near Charlotte is slated for its grand opening April 27. Much like the original shop, which opened 12 years ago, the new store offers a mix of furniture, home décor pieces, gifts and jewelry.

Justin Lingafelt, who co-founded Accent Prone with his wife, Cheri, said the new location “fell into our laps.” The owners of the building, which houses the Burgess Supply Co., a carpet and flooring store, and Modern Fabrics, a seller of upholstery fabrics and related items, were looking for a complementary business, said Lingafelt.

“They wanted to create a home center,” he said. “We knew the people who owned the fabric store and they told us the owners wanted to add a furniture store.” Lingafelt said they weren’t looking to expand, so the situation “had to be perfect. And it was.”

Work began on the site last summer with a soft opening this month. Because the space is smaller than Accent Prone’s 5,000-square-foot showroom in Kernersville, they opted to leave out the apparel section.

Accent Prone began as a sample store, selling showroom furniture acquired from suppliers at the High Point furniture market. Since then, the business has expanded into mostly new product, including its own label upholstery, with samples sold from its warehouse on Saturdays only.
