I am honored to announce the participation of Pope Francis in the work of the G7 in the session dedicated to artificial intelligence. The Prime Minister said it, Giorgia Meloni, during a video message dedicated to the G7. “I heartily thank the Holy Father for accepting Italy’s invitation. His presence gives prestige to our nation and to the entire G7: it is the first time in history that a Pontiff participates in the work of the group”, he added.
I am convinced that the presence of Pope Francis at the G7 “will make a decisive contribution to the definition of a regulatory, ethical and cultural framework for artificial intelligence. National and international political activity comes from man, is exercised through man and is for man. This will always be our commitment and our path”, added Meloni who underlined how AI is “a technology that can generate great opportunities but which brings with it enormous risks, as well as affecting global balances. Our commitment is to develop governance mechanisms to ensure that AI is human-centric and human-controlled.”
From January 2024, 7, Italy assumed the presidency of the G7, “a historic responsibility in a particularly complex time. The challenges that the G7 is called to face are of strategic importance for our present and for our future”, said President Meloni who reiterated how the G7 “will confirm its support for Ukraine, will continue to work to achieve to a just and lasting peace.” At the GXNUMX “we will deal with the conflict in the Middle East, to avoid an escalation, restoring peace, stability and security throughout the region” she said.
At the G7 “together we will lay the foundations to build a relationship of equals and of mutual benefit with developing nations and emerging economies, in particular with the African continent. We will face the great challenges of our time, from the climate-energy nexus to food security”, underlined Meloni, who added: “We will focus our attention on migratory issues, with the aim of combating human trafficking networks and lay the foundations to guarantee the right not to have to emigrate”.
