Yesterday, a Wright-Way Rescue’s Transport Team driver encountered an unplanned roadblock when a deer collided with the rescue van near Nashville, Illinois. Neither the driver nor any animals in transit were harmed; however, the deer-caused crash rendered the van unusable, thus negatively affecting the organization’s animal rescue capabilities, as per their Facebook post.
Before the incident, it ferried a critically ill puppy from Missouri. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the puppy was safely transferred to Wright-Way Rescue’s medical facility for treatment.
The destruction of the van poses a significant problem. The vehicle was scheduled to transport around 90 animals from Mississippi and Louisiana in the upcoming week; without it, these rescue efforts are at risk. A Wright-Way Rescue statement stressed the importance of the van, saying, “Our rescue vehicle is truly the backbone of our work in rural America, traveling thousands of miles each week to reach animals in dire need.”
Wright-Way Rescue is now seeking public assistance to expediently replace the van that is an essential component for the nonprofit. Donations are being accepted through their online donation platform to further facilitate their rescue operations.
The organization has a history of successfully overcoming past challenges. As reported by the Chicago Sun Times, Wright-Way Rescue managed to continue their efforts to save animals despite their Niles facility getting destroyed in a 2013 school bus accident. Their ability to persevere is credited to, besides relentless determination, generous donations and dedicated volunteers.
Rescue organizations like Wright-Way Rescue remain steadfast in their mission to save animals despite challenging circumstances. Their work is greatly aided by the support of individuals and communities. The future success of Wright-Way Rescue, in light of their damaged vehicle, now greatly depends on the public’s willingness to give.
