DERBY, Kan. (KAKE) –  After one pet grooming facility in Goddard was run into by a vehicle in a random accident on Thursday, another pet grooming facility in Derby on Friday suffered the same fate.

“I don’t know how long it’s gonna take to get it fixed,” said Louisa Davila, a manager at Fuzzie Was He.

Louisa Davila has been working in pet grooming for more than 30 years, and at Fuzzie Was He in Derby for more than 20. What she experienced today on the job, was unlike anything she had ever been through before.

“We were shocked. About 7:45 this morning we were all working at our tables and we heard an explosion,” said Davila.

That explosion was actually a car crashing into the front of the building causing damage both inside and outside.

“I really thought it was the gas explosion outside. It was that loud and that strong. I’m just shocked there wasn’t more damage to the lady’s car. She just had a few scratches,” said Davila.

Davila tells KAKE an elderly customer became confused driving to the groomers and accidentally crashed directly into the front of Fuzzie Was He.

“No one was hurt. She was fine. All the dogs were fine. Luckily they’re on the other side of the building. But it was pretty scary, as you can see it did a lot of damage,” said Davila.

There were five dogs and five groomers inside at the time of the accident but no injuries, just broken cinder blocks.

The grooming facility was forced to close its doors until the damage has been fully assessed and repaired.

“We’re waiting for the insurance to get back with us and see if there’s structural damage or if it’s something they can fix in a few days,” said Davila.

Fuzzie Was He is unsure of exactly when they will reopen but the goal is clear.

“To get this fixed as quickly as possible and get everyone back to work and all the dogs back on schedule,” said Davila.

It is still unclear the total cost of the damage, but the management is hopeful that insurance will cover the costs.
