The four Bladen County girls tennis players who qualified for NCHSAA regional tournaments were eliminated Friday in the opening round.
In Goldsboro, East Bladen’s tennis duo of Reese Hester and Chandler Bordeaux were eliminated in the 1A East Regionals at Herman Park.
Hester won the opening set of her match against Goldsboro Rosewood’s Kaylin Mitchell 7-5, but Mitchell battled back to take the next 2 sets and the match 6-3, 6-3. North Moore’s Logan Maness defeated Bordeaux 6-1, 6-4.
In Wake Forest, a doubles team from Seaforth High School eliminated the West Bladen doubles team of Yari Sanchez and Yuri Sanchez in the 2A MidEast Regionals at Flaherty Park by set scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Each of the Bladen County players had qualified for regional competition based on their performance in conference tournament play. Hester beat Bordeaux for the Waccamaw 1A Conference singles title. Yari and Yuri Santana reached the doubles championship match in the Southeastern Athletic Conference 2A tournament.
