Police Arrest man in Salinas after car chase

Police in Salinas have arrested a man who led officers on a car chase that started in Marina.According to the Marina Police Department, multiple calls were made of a man possibly using illegal substances in his car on Reservation Road. As they approached the car, they contacted 41-year-old Ruben Ayon Jr., who was sitting in the vehicle at the time, officers say Ayon proceeded to put his car into reverse, hitting a police car which then struck an officer who suffered minor injuries.During his escape from custody, Ayon led a police pursuit on Reservation Road and ended up entering a school zone in the Toro Park area, where police say stopped pursuing in the interest of public safety. A short time later, California Highway Patrol was able to locate Ayon where CHP officers and Salinas police were able to end the chase in the area of Romie Lane and Alameda Avenue.According to police, Ayon Jr. was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on several charges, which included felony vehicle evading and assault on a peace officer.
