LYNCHBURG, Va. (October 21, 2023) – The Mount St. Mary’s tennis duo of Sofia Kostirko and Margherita Trolese enjoyed more success Saturday at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Liberty University.
 
Following a victory over Virginia Friday, Kostirko and Trolese faced Chloe Bendetti and Katie Garofolo-Ro from Georgetown University. Going down to the wire, the Mountaineers pulled out an 8-7 victory to advance to the Round of 16. It was there that an impressive run concluded after an 8-2 defeat to Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield from the University of Maryland.
 
Kostirko finished her run later that afternoon in a close match with Maryia Hrynashka from the University of Delaware, falling 7-5, 7-6. Trolese completed her singles events on the opening day of the tournament.
 
The weekend completes the fall portion of the women’s tennis schedule. Matches resume in the spring semester.
