Women’s Tennis Concludes Successful Week At ITA Carolina Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Lizette Reding became the first Elon University women’s tennis player to ever reach the quarterfinals of a main singles draw at ITA Carolina Regionals on Saturday as the maroon and gold concluded the tournament.

After getting a spot in the A2 main draw as a lucky loser, Reding advanced through two rounds to make the quarterfinals. Reding also made it to the quarterfinals in doubles Friday with partner Sibel Tanik, as the senior duo was Elon’s first to make the quarterfinals for Elon at Regionals.

“The team competed very well at Regionals,” head coach Elizabeth Anderson said. “Lizette made a historic run in singles and is the first player we have had to make it to the quarterfinals. Sibel and Lizette were also impressive in knocking off the No. 6 seed and advancing to the quarterfinals. Helen [Sarikulaya] also competed extremely well in the tournament and showed a lot of grit by qualifying into the main singles draw. We are looking forward to a great week of practice and preparing to host the Jimmy Powell Invitational next weekend.”

Tanik also picked up a singles win Saturday for Elon in the A1 consolation draw, while freshmen Simone Bergeron and Ella Suk won additionally scheduled singles matches.
