Gwen Stefani Discusses How Her Dyslexia Became A ‘superpower’ in Her Singing Career

Gwen Stefani speaks openly about her dyslexia, which has become her “superpower” as a songwriter over the years.

Gwen explained in a recent interview with Variety how dyslexia affected her academic and social life.

“l hid myself in so many ways. I don’t know how I even got through school — I barely graduated. I tried as hard as I could, but I learned differently,” the 54-year-old said.

The Grammy-winning artist stated, “It took me extra work just to learn what everyone else was learning easily.”

Gwen disclosed that realizing she had a learning disability as a result of helping her children manage their dyslexia was a result of assisting her children with their dyslexia.

The musician disclosed that her cognitive disability aided in the development of her songwriting skills.

“When we write music, there’s no mold. There’s no one telling you to spell it like this or to put a paragraph here,” said an adjudicator on The Voice.

Gwen continued, “‘You just say what you think, whatever you feel, and all of a sudden, it’s in a song. It speaks back to you, it feels you, and it’s the greatest thing.”

Meanwhile, Gwen discussed her new music and revealed that she had 30 compositions ready for release.
