Dermot O’Leary pressed Alison Hammond for the truth live on television, revealing the reality behind her alleged £20 donation to charity.
The 50-year-old and 48-year-old TV personalities were joined by Gyles Brandreth on This Morning’s View when they discussed spontaneously joyful encounters.
During the discussion, Alison initially claimed to have found a £20 note on the ground and donated it to charity, but the truth was quite different.
Alison stated, “I was walking, I looked at the floor and I was like “That looks like a £20 note”. It was. I picked it up and I donated it to charity.”
The former X Factor host regarded his co-host on the ITV1 daytime show with suspicion as he revealed the truth to the viewers at home.
Dermot interjected, “She went to the charity shop and she bought a handbag for £15. For charity. And she kept the £5.”
Alison affirmed that Dermot’s allegations were accurate and then admitted that, after spending £15 in a charity shop, she used the remaining change to buy herself sweets.
She acknowledged, “And I did buy some sweets with that…”
Since becoming famous on Big Brother in 2002, Alison has been a mainstay on the program.
Since the departure of regular Friday hosts Ruth Langsford and Eammonn Holmes in 2021, who served as holiday replacements for former hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, she and Dermot have joined Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle as series regulars.
