Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season at Cleveland State


CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Duquesne University women’s tennis team finished its fall season at the Cleveland State University Invite this weekend.

DOUBLES
The Dukes battled Youngstown State and Eastern Michigan in doubles action Friday, then rematched EMU and battled Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon.

YSU took all three matches in the opening match. Duquesne picked up its first win in doubles action in the third match of the Friday nightcap against EMU, as Taisia Yakunina and Ellen Shanahan teamed up for a 6-0 shutout.

The  Eagles swept the rematch, then Mila Badics and Sofia Serrano (6-3) earned the lone win against Cleveland State in four matches.

SINGLES
Duquesne faced off against the hosts Saturday afternoon, which CSU won all six matches.

In Saturday’s singles action, the Dukes went 3-3 against Youngstown State. Daniela Latoni (7-5, 6-4), Mila Badics (3-6, 6-4, 10-8) and Sofia Serrano (2-6, 6-4, 10-7) picked up the DU victories.

Then in the final outing of the fall, Ellen Shanahan won a hardfought three-setter (6-3, 3-6, 13-11) as the only victory of the day for Duquesne against Eastern Michigan.
