UW-Whitewater Claims Women’s Tennis Title


MADISON, Wis.–University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Tennis Championship (presented by Culver’s) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Oct. 22.
 
The first-place finish is the 17th straight for the Warhawks and 24th in program history. UW-Whitewater won the crown with 21 points to surpass UW-Eau Claire’s second-place total of 18 points. UW-La Crosse took third with 15 points, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 12, UW-Stevens Point fifth with nine, UW-River Falls sixth with five and UW-Stout seventh with four.
 
This year’s team title was determined by using a combination of the regular-season dual-meet standings and the WIAC championship results. The finish in the regular-season standings accounted for one-third of the criteria, while the conference championship accounted for the remaining two-thirds.
 
At the two-day league championship, UW-Whitewater compiled 60 points (14 overall championship points), while UW-Eau Claire was second with 51 points (12), UW-La Crosse third with 48 (10), UW-Oshkosh fourth with 34 (8), UW-Stevens Point fifth with 31 (6), UW-River Falls sixth with 16 (4), and UW-Stout seventh with 12 (2).
 
UW-Whitewater, UW-Eau Claire, La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh advance to the team tournament that will determine the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship. UW-Whitewater will host the four-team event on April 27, 2024.

UW-Eau Claire’s Sydney Presler received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Morgan Dekan; UW-La Crosse’s Lauren Lindow; UW-Oshkosh’s Alysa Pattee; UW-River Falls’ Alicia Langbehn; UW-Stevens Point’s Chloe Leithold; UW-Stout’s Ellie Becker; and UW-Whitewater’s Cassie Lee.
