We can’t have nice things because of this. On Tuesday (April 18), Swifties attacked after Emma Laird posted a picture of Joe Alwyn to her Instagram account.
The Scottish actress is currently shooting the upcoming movie The Brutalist in Budapest, Hungary, with Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend. Photos showing Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Alwyn riding a scooter with a broad grin on his face were among the several he shared from the scene. With a red heart emoji, she captioned “Moments in March,” but her fans weren’t feeling the love.
The fandom started flooding the nine pictures with comments and accusations, so Laird turned off comments on the post. After the Mayor of Kingstown star ignored their comments on a post about Taylor and Joe’s breakup, Swifties went back through her feed and commented on older entries, saying things like, “We know you’ve been liking posts about Taylor and Joe’s breakup” and “There’s no way she didn’t know what she was doing.” One user snarked, “Alexa play better than revenge,” referring to Swift’s diss track from 2010’s Speak Now.
In the comments, other Swifties came to Laird’s defense, apologizing on behalf of the fandom and telling the trolls that Swift used to get the same kind of unfair online abuse before she released Reputation in 2017 and turned the story around.
“As a swiftie, I do NOT own the mean Swifties in these comments,” one person wrote with a clown and a red flag emoji. A second person said, “You guys need to make some friendship bands with all this energy. Hatred and bullying are not at the heart of the Swiftie cult. Don’t bother this poor girl.”
Even though we don’t know much about Alwyn and Laird’s parts in The Brutalist yet, the movie will also star Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce. Brady Corbet will direct it. Swift, meanwhile, has three shows this weekend at NRG Stadium in Houston as part of The Eras Tour.
