Heartbreaking Tributes from Fans, Friends, Even Dogs at Paul O’Grady’s Burial

After a heartfelt service that included a eulogy by Julian Clary, Paul O’Grady’s supporters were unable to hold back their tears as they paid respect to the animal-loving TV star.

In Aldington, Kent, the TV legend was laid to rest a few weeks after his family announced his “unexpected but peaceful” death at the age of 67. He was an ambassador for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Hundreds of people, some with their pets, came to say goodbye to the comedian and TV host. He will be put to rest today (Thursday) in Aldington at a private service.

Fans of Paul O’Grady have been brought to tears by the beautiful tributes to the animal-loving TV star as dogs line the streets to honor the life of their favorite host.

There are a lot of O’Grady’s friends at the service, like comedian Alan Carr and TV host Gaby Roslin.

LGBT rights activist Peter Tatchell, comedian Jo Brand, and actor Cheryl Fergison are at St. Rumwold’s Parish Church, where a Salvation Army band is greeting mourners.

A person waits outside the Walnut Tree Pub with a dog in a stroller and a picture of Paul O’Grady with the words “Thank you” written on it. Astrid Allen, who was sad, came from Margate with her dogs to line the streets.

O’Grady stayed in Kent for more than 20 years, and his coffin is expected to be pulled by horses through the village.

Ben Dawson, co-headteacher at Aldington Primary School, said that O’Grady used to come to school fetes, where students paid their thanks with banners and pictures.

O’Grady’s husband, Andre Portasio, expressed his “deep gratitude” for the “overwhelming outpouring of support and love” he had gotten by posting in local Facebook groups, urging the local school and community to come out to mourn.
