CSUF Police investigating burglary at visual arts building

The Cal State Fullerton Police Department is currently investigating a theft at the Visual Arts building last weekend, resulting in the loss of equipment valued at approximately $4,600.

According to a statement released by CSUF Police on Monday, several items, including Apple iPads, chargers, flashlights, knives and electronic equipment were taken. CSUF Police Capt. Scot Willey said the stolen property belonged to CW Driver, a contracting and construction company working out of offices on the northwest corner of the Visual Arts Modernization Project.

“What happened is that some unknown person got in through an unsecured door that was typically secured, but it wasn’t on that weekend. Someone just made a mistake and didn’t lock it, so that’s how they gained access to the office,” Willey said.

Employees of the company left the building at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, said Willey. Upon their return on Monday, they filed a report of the theft at 8 a.m.

Willey said there are only a few security cameras in the area where the theft took place, but there are cameras nearby facing the area.

“Our detectives are going to be going through the surveillance footage to see if there’s anything that they can gather from that; whether the person left in a car or on a bike or something like that. Then we can continue to pull different surveillance cameras from around the campus,” Willey said.

Willey said detectives are also looking into evidence collected and are attempting to track down electronics through nationwide stolen property databases.

At this time, there is no suspect for the theft, said Willey.

CSUF Police are hoping potential witnesses will come forward. People with additional information relating to the theft are urged to contact CSUF PD Investigations at (657) 278-2902.
