Men’s Tennis Wraps Up ITA Northeast Super Regional – University of Pennsylvania Athletics


PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Super Regional throughout the weekend, hosted by Princeton.

Senior Sameer Gangoli, sophomores Kian Vakili and Manfredi Graziani, and freshman Parashar Bharadwaj all competed in singles. Penn sent three duos in Gangoli and Bharadwaj, Vakili and freshman Aaron Sandler, and Graziani and junior Zachery Lim to compete in the doubles portion of the regional.

Gangoli advanced to the round of 16 in singles to highlight the Quakers at the regional, while Bharadwaj, Vakili, and Graziani fell in the round of 32. As for doubles, all three duos of Gangoli/Bharadwaj, Vakili/Sandler, and Graziani/Lim dropped matches in the round of 16.

Singles Final Results  

Gangoli was able to pick up the win in the first round of the regional, defeating Yujiro Onuma (Dartmouth) 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. Bharadwaj fell to Alex Kotzen (Columbia) 6-0, 3-6, 6-1, while Vakili dropped his match against Daniils Snaiders (University at Buffalo) 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32 on Friday. Graziani fell to Pablo Perez Ramos (NJIT) 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 32.

On Saturday, Gangoli fell to Sebastian Sec (Princeton) 6-2, 6-3 to end his run at the Super Regional. 

Throughout the Men’s singles consolation tournament, Bharadwaj and Sandler were able to compete for Penn. On Saturday, Bharadwaj fell to Henry Ren (Dartmouth) 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, while Sandler was defeated by Masato Perera (Harvard) 6-4, 6-4. 

Doubles Final Results

Graziani/Lim fell to Valdemar Pape/Perera (Harvard) 5-7, 7-6, 10-3 on Friday in the round of 16. Gangoli/Bharadwaj were defeated by JJ Bianchi/ Jake Vassel (Boston College) 6-1, 6-3, and Vakili/Sandler dropped their match against Cooper Williams/Daniel Milavsky (Harvard) 6-4, 6-2.
