Vallejoan Tiffanee Jones recognized among U.S. Rep. John Garamendi’s honorees for 2023 Woman of the Year

U.S. Rep. John Garamendi announced Tiffanee D. Jones honoring her among California’s 8th Congressional District 2023 Women of the Year at a special ceremony on October 12 at the Benicia Veteran’s Memorial Hall. Jones was recognized for her contributions to the Vallejo – Solano County area.

In announcing Jones and each of the honorees representing the 58 California counties, Rep. Garamendi said the awardees were nominated by their peers and “have demonstrated a clear commitment to their community through their leadership and dedication to public service.”

“I’m extremely grateful to receive this Congressional Commendation from Rep. Garamendi and for the peer support that made this recognition possible,” said Jones. “I’ve been an advocate for the Vallejo community and Solano County in many ways over the years, and I look forward to continuing to make a positive difference for those whom I’m committed to serve.”

Jones is currently the District Director for Assemblymember Lori D. Wilson of the 11th Assembly District that covers Solano County, Contra Costa County, and Sacramento County. Her previous work experience is in the fields of Law Enforcement and Education. She is the owner of Forward Education LLC., an Educational Consulting and Management Business and also serves as Co-Director for the Willie B. Adkins Scholars Program, formerly known as the Tanner Project, a college preparation program serving students and families in the City of Vallejo and Solano County, focused on increasing African American student enrollment and completion of college. Jones’ primary role has been to develop and implement early intervention programs to assist students who are not benefiting from a regular school program. Since its inception in 1986, the program achieved a 100% high school graduation rate and 100% college graduation rate.

Jones’ law enforcement career began as a Correctional Officer with the State of Georgia, then transitioned into Probation Officer. She was instrumental in developing a cross agency Juvenile Diversion Program that included County Probation, high schools and the District Attorney’s Office in Gainesville, Georgia.

Jones’ love of education, children, politics, and community service catapulted her into being engaged civically and politically at the local and State level. She is an elected member of the Solano County Democratic Central Committee serving her second term as Southern Vice Chair and the founding member of two new Democratic Clubs: Solano Democratic Workers Alliance and Sankofa Democrats of Solano County. She was elected as an Assembly District 11 Representative to the California Democratic Party for the 2021-23 term. She is an active member of California Democratic Party’s Black Caucus, Children’s Caucus, LGBT Caucus, Progressive Caucus, Women’s Caucus, Labor Caucus and Chicano Caucus.

Jones received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration — Organizational Management and a minor in Education from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters for her community work.

NorthBay Medical Center Earns Prestigious Surgical Care Designation
NorthBay Medical Center has been designated as an American College of Surgeons
Surgical Quality Partner.

The designation means the hospital has met the highest standards of surgical care by minimizing complications, improving outcomes and saving lives. The ACS Surgical Quality Partner designation signifies NorthBay Health’s adherence to consistently improving procedures and approaches while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step, explained Heather Theaux, Director of Emergency Services and the Trauma Program at NorthBay Health.

Being a Surgical Quality Partner tells patients that NorthBay is committed to relentless self-improvement. The evaluation involves collecting and analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes, she added.

“We are proud to be named an ACS Surgical Quality Partner,” said Theaux. “This designation reflects the culmination of years of dedication and elevates NorthBay Medical Center to an elite group of health care institutions leading the way in surgical quality and patient safety.”

The American College of Surgeons is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving patient care by setting and raising standards. The ACS has 13 Quality Programs that lead to greater access for patients, fewer complications, lower cost of care, and better outcomes. As a participant in at least one ACS Quality Program, NorthBay has earned this prestigious Surgical Quality Partner distinction.

NorthBay is a participant with ACS under the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). For more than 100 years, ACS Quality programs have enhanced the care of surgical patients. Participation in these programs shows that a hospital is committed to surgical quality and has met rigorous external standards confirmed by an outside verification process.

As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, NorthBay Medical Center has shown “a commitment to maintaining the highest standard in surgical care, noted Patricia L. Turner, M.D., ACS Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, in a letter announcing the designation.

Fairfield student awarded Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship

STONINGTON, Conn. — The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening the Coast Guard community and service by supporting members and families, announced today that it has awarded 187 new scholarships in 2023, totaling $650,000 in support for the 2023-2024 academic year. Since the program’s inception in 1990, the Foundation has awarded more than $6.9 million in scholarships, ensuring Coast Guard children can build strong futures through a college education or technical school training.

Jolee Langill from Fairfield, child of retired Coast Guard veteran Douglas Langill, received a Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship and attends the Dominican University of California.
