Christian County, Mo. food bank helps bridge the gap with the Ukrainian community

OZARK, Mo. (KY3) – Ozark food bank, Least of These, has served the Christian County community for over 25 years.

Leaders with the food bank say they serve around 16% of Ukrainian families in Christian County.

“We are seeing people and families from all different socioeconomic classes, as well as cultures and backgrounds. And we’re trying to meet people where they are, and how can we help those in need with the least amount of hurdles or barriers that are in place,” said Executive Director Kristy Carter of Least of These.

As a result of the growing population, the food bank created a Ukrainian-listed food sheet to better serve those families in need.

“I want people to know that we care about them. I want them to know that when they come here, they are valued, and we want them to have a sense of dignity when they’re here. It’s not an easy task to ask for help but we want families to know we’re here for them,” said Carter.

She says because of the services Least of These provides it makes it easier for Ukrainian families to adapt to life in the Ozarks.
