West Virginia is no longer the most dangerous state for Memorial Day travel. A recent study now places it third for deadly vehicle crashes during the holiday weekend. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates nearly a thousand fatal crashes in the U.S. during Memorial Day, with five expected in West Virginia.
The latest study used data from 2018 to 2022. This is different from the previous study, which used data from 2012 to 2021. The updated findings show some changes in safety rankings among states.
