National Travel and Tourism Week highlights economic impact of travel industry

National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) celebrated the vital contributions of the U.S. travel industry, emphasizing its role in driving economic growth and innovation with the theme #TravelForward.

“Travel fuels every industry—our success is the nation’s success,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman. Established in 1983, NTTW highlights how travel stimulates economic growth, creates jobs, and enhances quality of life. In 2023, the travel industry contributed $2.8 trillion to the U.S. economy and supported 15 million jobs, generating $89 billion in federal, state, and local taxes.

Cayuga County also benefited significantly from travel in 2022, driving $17.469 million in state and local taxes, providing $558 in tax relief per household, and employing 1,480 people. The Cayuga County Office of Tourism continues to educate visitors about the area’s rich history and vibrant community.
