TSA is prepared for the expected increase in Memorial Day Weekend travel from BWI International Airport

LINTHICUM, Md.–As Memorial Day Weekend approaches, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is prepared to handle a slight increase in the number of travelers who will be flying out of Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and airports nationwide.

For the first time ever, TSA will likely be screening more than 3 million passengers nationwide in a single day at some point this summer. We have already recorded four top 10 busiest days this month, with this Thursday and Friday before Memorial Day expected to see more than 2.9 individuals screened at checkpoints across the nation.

“Here at BWI Airport, we expect to screen approximately 33,000 travelers per day for Memorial Day Weekend, which is about a 1 percent increase than we see on an average day,” said Christopher Murgia, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. “The most important things that travelers can do is to get to the airport early and come prepared to go through the checkpoint screening process.”
